UK rapper and artist J.Eka welcomes in a refreshingly ambient, melodic production style, to match up with the conscious and cleanly-mixed bars of his writing – Bread & Wine is a smart and stylish alternative to contemporary hip hop, and creatively ticks a lot of different boxes as it smoothly pours through.
Just past two minutes in full but surprisingly impactful for its ethereal and colourful design and the poetic, romantic and intelligent depth of the writing, Bread & Wine impresses consistently as it runs, and actually prompts keen interest in a quick re-listen once the music has ended.
Not too many rappers manage to have that effect these days – saying enough that feels fresh and sharp to make you not want to miss any reflections or ideas. Then when you delve back in, the unmistakable character and flair of the whole arrangement connects with unmistakable confidence and ability.
Absolutely worth knowing about this summer.
