Artist and musician Sanat Sawant / idksan takes on the recently renowned Harry Styles hit As It Was, with his unique twist of instrumental electric guitar music.
Featuring superb playing throughout, the track is both instantly familiar and refreshing as it rains down with style and skill combined.
Brightly mixed yet ultimately linked to classic rock and roll in tone and delivery, idksan’s As It Were feels like a multi-layered arena-ready hit in and of itself. Sensational guitar playing lights up the spaces between moments, for an almost Queen-like progression that explodes into energy and optimism during the hooks.
Fast-paced and finely balancing the warmth of pop with the attitude and passion of rock, this is easily one of the most impressive covers of this song to emerge. The arrangement alone reinforces the changing stages of the song in a whole new way, but then the clear character and identity of idksan’s playing, the solo-work connecting the dots or phrases throughout – it all breathes new life into the recognisable sound of the melody.
Really nicely done, a live show would surely raise the bar further still, and I look forward to hearing more.
