Grynd Seazon and Noah Archangel bring the strength and calm confidence of classic hip-hop with their brand new LP Grind Seazon featuring the track EZ. EZ a powerful opener to the collection, and this idea of a calm sort of confidence is exactly the vibe you get from it.
The music is stylish, there’s a sense of peace about it, yet on the whole the sound is quite striking. It creates a calming ambiance that quickly sets an easy going vibe for listeners to revel in, but there’s nothing overly mellow or laid back about the rap performances involved – there’s an increasing level of passion in the sound of the voices, and this expresses the lyrics and ideas in a way that builds in intensity alongside the soothing overtones of the instrumentation.
As the track fades out you really notice the music for what it is, but before this point the voices seem to be both in tune and in contrast with it all, so it works – it flows with a great smoothness, yet you find yourself really listening to every line. The vocal rhythm is consistent, and the energy is superb. There’s a brilliantly organic and perhaps slightly jazz-inspired vibe to the instrumentation that backs these vocal performances up incredibly well.
The music has a style and an attitude that grabs you from the offset, and the calming nature of the whole thing keeps you involved, whilst those lyrics and those voices captivate you throughout. It seems like a simple concept, the theme seems fairly common, but there’s nothing hugely predictable about the verses; there’s actually a fair bit of wisdom presented, and these ideas are valuable – there’s an element of inspiration to it all. It’s fresh, and a really strong release – EZ as a track in itself is worth more than a few listens. One for the long term hip-hop playlist for certain.
