Good Spells Time Again

-

Increasingly these days it takes a real gem of a track to remind you that true artists create from a place of needing to create – not purely out of the desire for plays, clicks, likes. Good Spells has always come across as that kind of artist, but the ethereal trip hop depth and haunting vocal loop of Time Again outright secure it.

Admittedly nostalgic for its superb blending of trip hop-style production and that indie vocal twist of character, Time Again follows a single concept and a single lyrical question for the most part, across an expanding tapestry of immersive electronic design.

The whole thing is evocative, piano chords well-placed for impact, but it’s also subtly energizing for its increasing weight – the base, the drum-line, the fragments of additional voice and lyrical observations. Suddenly nostalgia is replaced by the clarity of this modern approach, Good Spells resounding as an original artist promising both vibe and intention. We even get the drum and bass drop to further elevate the audio experience – those alternative UK scenes of a simpler era streaming back into consciousness, the festival-ready fusion of darkness and light, dance music and intimate songwriter reflections.

Time Again is brief yet brilliant, and makes for an addictively satisfying call out on behalf of uncertainty and the comfort of finely produced ambient electronica.
