Introducing a hypnotically smooth take on contemporary afro-fusion – Nigerian artist and songwriter GidiSol brings the melody and soulful harmonising to the modern realm, with the light rhythms and addictive vocals of the Roses and Diamonds EP.
Built around a simple yet immersive production approach, the project lights up the space with its opening track alone – the intricate and subtle layers of guitar, rhythm, synth and voice of Cover Me creating an alluring listen that naturally connects.
Then we get the GidiSol lead, with depth and delicacy intertwined authentically at the helm. It’s a voice that naturally and fluidly meanders through these descending waves of melody, with choir-like tribal chants of support echoing in the distance.
Lyrically intimate, poetic and personal, Cover Me is an infectious but non-intrusive ear worm. It’s a beautifully impassioned and humble arrangement, with superb production letting the natural energy and contemplation of the writing and GidiSol’s own performance shine with genuine brightness.
The EP continues to impress for similar qualities, but makes sure to lift the mood for the subsequent OBO – whilst maintaining those now recognisable threads like the voice, the guitar, the beat, and the supporting gospel-style vocals.
