Emman-Pelumi throws caution to the wind when it comes to genre, fusing and utilizing an array of influences and styles, offering a playlist that’s as eclectic as it is cinematic. Beginning with the neo-classical, retro electronic tones of I Am Emotional, the project kicks off in precisely the creative manner in which it intends to proceed.
I Am Emotional is a soundscape built up of partly nostalgic layers – classic synths and beats appear intermittently amidst a freely meandering melody-line and a sense of rising intensity as the whole thing slowly but surely gathers momentum.
Composition-wise, there’s a sense of magnitude to much of the music – that cinematic quality is not just in the multi-layered ambiance, but in the mood presented by the chord progressions within. There are various stages to even just the opening track, suggesting intention and an underlying story-line and series of emotions that are inherently involved in the whole creative process. The title represents the track well, and as suggested – the piece makes for a fitting introduction to a freely expressive, unpredictable collection of tracks. Emman-Pelumi follows his heart when it comes to making music, and this stands tall throughout.
