Australia’s echolily returns this month with a follow-up single to underneaththeclocks (stay). The new release is a hypnotically ambient, intentional and captivating Michelle’s Imagination (Blue).

The ever-intriguing artist directly addresses a new realm of fascination with this artistically progressive new release. Building up slowly from the simple pulse of synths and warmth through rhythmic, soulful and passionate arenas of story-telling and scene changes – the song is as unpredictable as it is compelling, and echolily’s creative reach extends further than ever before.

Making fine use of every second stylistically, and every layer and detail beyond the simple strength of a voice and lyrical thread, the three minute fifty piece rises and rises – utilising exotic melodies and compressed drums to reinforce the sudden power as the voice cries out for conceptual connection.

The topic is writer’s block in the world of the artist – the pressure to perform and continue to create, even during times when you’re face to face with the wall of impossibility. The evolving emotions of the composition, and the sheer ache in the vocal delivery, all present this issue incredibly well.

While her last single was immediately impressive, this one leans vastly towards an even more immersive and interesting style – unique enough to draw you in, yet familiar enough thanks to that voice and creative freedom to still ring true as the work of this artist. A beautiful balance, and a cleverly revealing track and video that easily warrant a few run throughs.
