UK songwriter and artist DiElle captures the essence of introspective songwriting, uniting thoughts of adventure, travel and storytelling, throughout the reflective and uplifting folk-pop collection Atlas.
An organic ten-track album devoted to the heartfelt joy of escapism that is love, the world, and the journey of the self, Atlas begins with the raw emotion and brightness of Wanderlust – a guitar and piano pairing, a strong vocal lead, later elevated by a gentle choir of voices and some modest but more full production choices.
Magic Carpet follows with a more mysterious undertone, but proceeds to fit the mold well in terms of the metaphors and celebratory escapism of the project at large.
Having spent her life immersed in music and songwriting, the natural poetry and playful performative warmth of Atlas resounds through each of these tracks. I actually saw DiElle perform many years back, in Bristol, and the integrity of her voice and writing remains as genuine and enjoyable as ever.
The DiElle sound and style is undeniable, the folk-pop optimism and relatable wordplay are clearly personal to the artist, but they’re presented in a relatable, accessible manner, and that quality rings loud throughout the contemplative and hopeful depths of the completed Atlas album.
