Featuring a humble rhythm of depth and darkness, a downtempo trap beat to underpin these sweeping layers of classical strings and synths, Adagio One effectively creates an audio world of escapism that feels both impressively genuine and decidedly surreal.
The work is somewhat more low-key than some of David’s more recent Preludes, leaning towards the likes of Clubbed To Death in its mystery and melancholy. As ever though, the arrangement details and the resulting mood, the imaginative journey presented to each listener, is entirely its own thing. David Ratmoko has become a master of this creative and compelling unity – presenting the sort of familiar but unrecognisable oxymoron in music that fascinates and deeply moves.
