Deeply vulnerable declarations meet with a heavily warped vocal effect and stripped-back piano ambiance – a conflicting sense of openness and fear uniting for an intriguing introduction, before the clean mix and conscious bars of INSATIABLE proceed to highlight the true honesty and purpose of Danny Pearls.
Melodic fragments of a hook resolve each line, two vocals mixing for dynamic and a kind of emotional back and forth, as the mellow pace and lyrical longing of the track rolls along in a captivating manner.
It’s a unique gateway into the Danny Pearls sound, non-confronting but quietly compelling and profound in its realism, and these qualities continue to stand tall throughout an eclectic but well-grounded project.
Next we hear the natural world and these gentle synth chords meet another melodic vocal, as BEVERLY NIKKI reflects upon the highs and lows of an uncertain relationship connection. We get a strong groove here, a classic rap track with an RnB-like chorus and a twist of sexual fantasy that naturally backs up the romantic core of the music.
Then out of nowhere, the vibe switches to mildly gritty, an atmospheric guitar-line setting the mood for an intriguing FUK U IN HELL. ‘Your love is poison’ makes for a powerful opening line, along with other lyrics that pierce through on a similarly poetic note – ‘love you to death’, ‘every scream you cry’, ‘where love is a crime’. It’s a haunting portrayal, a new flow on display, but still that Danny Pearls voice remains unmistakable.
Danny then joins forces with Grizz, for a smoothly jazz-kissed ode to the line between love and lust. BRI BABY offers an impassioned arrangement, which varies both instrumentally and in the vocal variety to help naturally hold attention throughout.
After this, a renowned melody introduces the powerful longing and evocative depth of LEO FEVER. An easy highlight, both intimate and complex in its relaying of love, desire, regret. The music is slightly more fast-paced, Danny’s flow and bars are too, and the track is gripping to listen through – highlighting the true intelligence and skill of Danny’s writing and vocal flair across a poetic and powerful song.
SZNS CHANGE follows on beautifully, another satisfying vocal rhythm and underlying piano-jazz groove, a story that’s something of a compelling outpouring; again loaded with both meaning and performative swagger. It’s humble but impressive, a wholly immersive track, and the perfect way to close down what is a genuinely focused and distinct modern EP.
