Stunning soul-rock and blues vocals passionately guide us, as Dan Millson carves out the classic blues-folk stomp and story of Saint Peter.
The UK’s own and standing tall on the strength of both his organic musicality and the sheer weight and rasp of a unique voice, Dan Millson highlights the best of his lyrical prowess with this intoxicating release.
The track has a similar feel to the kind of huge folk and blues artists to have emerged of late – think Hozier, Rag and Bone Man, etc. However, for me, there’s something a little more gritty and alternative about Saint Peter – not least of all in the way the latter half evolves into a sheer scream of an indie rock meets gospel and psychedelic arena of sound.
It’s a hugely impassioned performance, and the instrumental set-up more than meets the needs of that – resulting in a song that’s quite unrivalled in what it offers the listener, in terms of pure escapism into the volume and outcry of the recording. Beautifully captured.
