Knowing precisely the building blocks required to build a career in music, D.Tech releases just enough new material to keep things evolving, yet always the tracks appear at a blissfully professional level. Undertones is his latest offering, and far from the exception.
Pouring through the speakers or headphones with the delicacy and contrasting weight of a studio-crafted hit, the single leads with a dreamlike smoothness. In amidst this is the vocal lead, equally gentle yet gritty on occasion to keep that contrast and appeal strong.
A song about intimacy, the music and the performance tie in beautifully with the lyrics. D.Tech leans back and forth between clever poetic references and those that are a little more surface-level descriptive. Short lines juxtapose those that flow for longer, keeping things eclectic yet never straying from the natural flow and mood of the music.
Towards the end, as the vocals fall away, you get a chance to really appreciate that soundscape again. The finish is superb, and the overall vibe of the track is perfectly well catered to the subject matter. What D.Tech does particularly well though, is throw in just enough of his own personal, recognizable traits – including the sudden switches to intensity, moments of brief passion and volume – and this is where he continues to build upon those essentials that help create a lasting career.
