Cyborg Asylum - My Metallic Dream - Stereo Stickman

Cyborg Asylum My Metallic Dream

-

Cyborg Asylum’s sound is something of its own creation entirely. The band’s name and indeed the title of this latest release, even the artwork, suggest perhaps a hard-rock or metal outpouring will occur as you press play. However, assumption is the enemy of creativity, and what you actually get is something incredibly melodic and uniquely crafted.

My Metallic Dream showcases a band that write from a place of deep thought and consideration. Musically the song fuses a touch of electronic rock with something leaning a little more in the direction of indie-pop. Structurally, the song builds up brilliantly. The soundscape is experimental in a way, yet blissfully atmospheric. The instrumentation alone offers up a musical journey upon which the listener and the artists alike can explore deeper realms of thought. As the music builds, the rhythm hits, the distortion brings about a thickness, a certain edge, and the varying vocal parts add to the effect of this clever structuring really well.

There are some notably gentle moments within the release that create a powerful contrast with the more bold sounding ones. The lyrics are simple yet each one of importance is repeated just enough times to make it really sink in. My strength is running low is the first to hit hard, the feeling multiplied by the surrounding music. Then the hook, the questioning nature of the lyrics here provoking certain ideas and adding to that mysterious element that the soundscape comes with. The leading vocal is beautifully on point throughout the song, the singer’s range adds a level of appeal that is not always found in electronic music, and it works well. The band are doing their own thing entirely, and the sound shines brightly as a result.
