Long-time performer and artist CHIDGEY gifts his distinct vocal depth and versatility to a new solo EP this season.
Blending alt-folk anthemic charm with heavier rock rhythms and quality hooks, L.A.R.P storms into view with the mighty Love Ain’t Gonna Come in The Night, a touch of Ben Caplan to the style, then proceeds through five original tracks that prove equally evocative and performative, but quite boldly unconfined by genre.
All Or Nothing channels a nineties pop-rock aura of heartfelt desperation, some nostalgic movie’s final track, while Bit by Bit feels more intimate and folk-like in its rawness and quiet arrangement.
Then we get the complete redirection of The Way You Make Me Feel, atmospheric and dark but romanticised, with interesting instrumental choices. And to finish, Brother ignites some new rock power and depth, for an intoxicating blues-rock anthem of soaring distortion and soul, to wrap things up quite brilliantly.
Creativity leads the way here, and CHIDGEY’s is a voice undisrupted by the electronification of the modern scene. These five songs are refreshing, genuine, clever, and fiercely distinct.
