CHAMi - GANGSTA - Stereo Stickman

Something refreshingly unexpected this week – bringing together the hypnotic embrace of rhythmic tribal techno and minimal house, with catchy melodic threads, multiple vocals, lashings of character and an overall addictive groove – Washington creative DJ CHAMi lifts the mood with style, for GANGSTA.

Somewhat nostalgic and even retro in its minimalist yet infectious state, GANGSTA features simple melodic progressions alongside subtle production twists or warping, panning and re-building, to ultimately deliver an instantly recognizable indie hit; one that effectively introduces its own unique sense of intention and a carefree love for the process.

An impressive introduction to CHAMi, GANGSTA showcases a clear variety of influences, emerging unconfined by a single genre but instead celebratory of many, and focused artistically on the central mood and catchy, good-vibes aspect of music as escapism.

GANGSTA has the makings of an unrelenting radio gem, quirky enough to prove memorable, but not so much so that it grows tiresome – far from it. There’s also plenty of potential for this to be a particularly worthy floor-filler, which naturally transcends the barriers of style, location and crowd.

Inspired by the likes of Cloonee, Pawsa, Misha (US). Find CHAMi on Instagram & Soundcloud.
