Always something that wins me over when the chemistry hits just right – the soulful vocal story and lead, the melodic lightness, and the uplifting escapism of nostalgic drum and bass. Lightness and euphoria meet beautifully here, as Cegor delivers the intoxicating and heartfelt embrace of Blackout.
With Lillian Harkless on vocals, Blackout explores the vulnerable topic of blacking out during a late night escapade, and cleverly leans into Alice in Wonderland themes along the way. The track unites evocative vocals with the fluidity and excitement of DnB, and weaves in a shock-factor-style hook for the K-hole reference during the song’s immersive crescendo.
With originality in the RnB to near-rap verses and something a little indie-pop-like to its mid-section, Blackout is brilliantly original, but also holds closely to the timeless hypnotic value of finely crafted EDM.
Blackout is a huge celebration of a multi-vocal chorus in the end, carefully juxtaposing the darkness of the subject matter, and is ultimately one of the most addictive songs of the summer.
