By Small Ruin Crazy

Always an act worth taking a moment out of your day to turn up the volume for, By Small Ruin kick back into gear with a gorgeously melodic, classic pop-rock ode to the inevitable power of love.

Story-tellers by nature, the band offer nostalgic songwriting that lays out the details and sets the scene during the verses, then resolves in a moment of brightness and unity for the hook. Where the verses push the intricacies away from the self somewhat, the chorus well and truly brings the truth into focus.

The song moves from the impossible to the inescapable, its latter half introducing poetically beautiful references to underline the sheer wonder and hypnotic strength of being in love. Uncertainty stands tall alongside this, the central character simply accepting the situation and not needing to dig too deep or understand how things could have changed so dramatically.

In short, the song talks of a personal friend of the band’s, who swore he’d never settle down, but soon fell hard for someone special. It’s a familiar situation – we all like to revel in our independence from time to time. At the end of the day though, love tends to rule, and life’s much more enjoyable when shared.

In short, Crazy is a really nice tune from By Small Ruin. A gentler offering perhaps, but with a bold and memorable hook that effectively draws your attention towards the band’s specific tone and style of songwriting.
