Boy Virgo - Lock Me Up - Stereo Stickman

Boy Virgo Lock Me Up

-

Boy Virgo takes classic songwriting down a contemporary creative pathway for this latest single.

Leading with the comfort of a long-form pop and RnB-style vocal melody, surprisingly clean-cut and upfront within the mix – fairly unaffected and natural it seems – the song goes on to showcase a largely industrial, almost tribal-style beat, a wash of retro synths, and a fuzz-kissed, heavy bass-line that fills the backdrop with warmth.

The style is a refreshing take on modern pop, and still the addictive building blocks are there – the hook repeats enough times to sink in, the line and title concept is simple yet fresh enough to appeal, and willing or not you likely find yourself singing along during those final moments.

Underneath all of this is of course the songwriting, the title creating intrigue and Boy Virgo’s decidedly intimate, stripped-back vocal furthering that interest. The verses lay out the details, quick lines that offer a sort of listing of events and moments. The story becomes more familiar, the relationship aspect overtakes, and the title turns out to be a clever way to draw people in towards a song that’s ultimately relatable and easy to connect with.

It will be interesting to hear where else the music takes Boy Virgo over the coming months and years.
