Black Hebrew - Jenn - Stereo Stickman

Black Hebrew Jenn

Black Hebrew offers up an impressively smooth and skillful RnB track with this latest release Jenn. From the offset the song feels like a slept-on classic, a nostalgic hit that made waves back in the day – those jazz vibes and the seductive delicacy with which the whole thing is delivered work really well. At the same time, the song doesn’t specifically bring about any direct comparisons – the further you get into it, the more you appreciate the smaller details and intricacies that make it so creatively fresh. There are snippets of piano, flickers of additional vocals, soulful outpourings from every angle, and yet – even with all of this, there’s still an inherent sense of calm and simple good vibes to the finished piece.

That groove is infectiously satisfying, easy going yet quick to grab hold of you. Classic RnB and pop fans will likely take to this in a second. The fusion of voices during the latter half works beautifully, and all the while the song’s very sentiment is dedicated to a significant other – it celebrates love and adoration in a genuine way. The musical colour and the general brightness of the entire soundscape and everything within it reflects these underlying ideas in a fitting manner.

It’s a pleasure to hear a song like this come through among today’s musical landscape – those classic vibes are missed, and what Black Hebrew has done with the approach is introduce a sound that’s naturally connected to the genre – and to songwriting and performance in general. You get the feeling this is an artist who loves to sing in this way, who loves to make music and be a part of the entertainment and escapism industry; for those who so often turn to it when the noise of the world gets a little too heavy.

The only thing missing at this stage is the rest of the playlist – the longer project is likely to give audiences everything they’ve been looking for since the days of soul and RnB were first making waves. At the same time, you quickly grow accustomed to that vocal tone, that sense of character and style, so the whole process feels like being introduced to a new and natural artist – an exciting one, with a great ear for effective melodies, and a writing style that leads with honesty and emotion. Well worth a listen.
