Andy Jordan - Gin & Jazz - Stereo Stickman

Andy Jordan Gin & Jazz

-

Andy Jordan and producer Benedict Gibbon have crafted an absolute dream with this latest single. The smooth seduction of that bass-line and Jordan’s softly soulful, raspy leading voice pave the way beautifully – laying out an organic and engaging foundation, upon which the song in full can stand tall and hit with unquestionable impact as it pours through.

Gin & Jazz is a simple track in nature, those building blocks have a certain realness and there’s a level of space to much of the recording – allowing you a sense of connection, and suggesting a level of authenticity. You can visualize the live show, you’re escorted to those nights of gin and jazz just by listening, and all it’s taken is a few finely selected and gorgeously performed elements to really build something striking.

Often it’s something much bigger than genre or a particular style that gives a song or a sound an addictive quality. In this case, there’s a partly nostalgic and classically cool vibe to the musicality – the bass-line and those flickers of electric guitar, the consistency of the hi-hat, and what is a genuinely fitting and compelling leading voice for this kind of release. On top of that though, the finish feels crisp, clean, and new – a contemporary edge shines brightly, and for all of these reasons it’s an easy piece to have play on repeat.

Andy Jordan carries this melody and this emotionally loaded sense of longing in a powerful and entrancing fashion – and that’s without utilizing anything fake or overbearing in the process. The whole thing is beautifully natural, hints of vocal intensity and heightened passion emerge among the outer edges as things build, and by the end – the quietness has evolved into something much more uplifting and hypnotic. A live show is a must for those who stumble upon the opportunity. I look forward to hearing more.
