Magic Hits offers a timeless anthem of acceptance and optimism – ‘There must be more to life than this’ resounds with an initial uncertainty, a sense of melancholy, but the warmth of the music, the video and the ultimate resolve of understanding, leaves a lingering sense of possibility.
The release inspires movement, change, prompting the listener to look for something better in the world, and providing the stylish musical escapism within which to really start acting upon that.
The song has a nice fusion of influences about it, the chord pattern and short-lined simplicity of Oasis but with a gentler, more soft-rock or Americana arrangement, and gorgeously delicate, contemplative folk vocals from Adrian on the front line. The completed style is a little Starsailor-esque in tone and structure. In the end though, Adrian’s sound is his own, and whether it’s a full-band arrangement or a solo acoustic delivery, that identity stands tall.
