Following the release of her new collaborative single Ta$te It, with Indian Trap, we caught an interview Katrina Kusa to find out more about her creative journey and her plans going forwards. Here’s the conversation in full.

Hi Katrina – hope things are good where you are! For those who don’t know, how would you describe what you do as an artist?

As an artist, I love to express myself in different ways through various platforms. I love to sing and write songs. And besides that, I am an actress and an award-winning author.

What can you tell us about the new single Ta$te It – how did the song come to be, and what was it like to work with Indian Trap?

Ta$te It is an urban pop style song that engages a message to many about having fake friends or fake relationships. I really wanted to create a message that can empower many and mean something. Working with Indian Trap made this project come to life. Trap was and still is such a huge mentor during the process of creating this project.

How did you build the structure of the song, the changes in melody, and the switch from rap – was this a joint effort, or did the design of the beat come first?

The design of the beat came first and then the structure of the song. We wanted something fresh that would surprise the listener’s ears. That is when the rap and pop style adjustments came in to play.

Will there be a video to accompany the release, and if so – what can we expect from that?

Yes, there will be a video to accompany the release. You can expect the video to come by mid to end of September.

Whose music have you listened to the most during 2020?

The artists this year have been killing it! During 2020, especially quarantining at home, I’ve listened to literally everyone – I love various types of music! Mostly, I listen to my favorite, Ariana Grande, she inspires a lot of my music, alongside Dua Lipa, and Halsey.

What’s next for you?

You can expect another single coming very soon. My next single is more personal and shows more of my artistry. Other than music, I have a new book that will also be releasing soon.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

There’s so much to know about me that I don’t even know where to start. More of Katrina Kusa is yet to come and my adventure is just getting started! I’m super humble and I love making people happy – being the light that inspires others to live unapologetically and to chase your dreams at full speed!
