Hi Kamryn – great to chat with you, congrats on the release of Use Me – such a great song! For those new to your music, how long have you been writing and releasing originals?
Hi! It’s great to chat with you too! Thank you so much. I’ve been writing ever since I could remember but released my first song back in 2018!
How did the single Use Me come to be, what was the writing process like?
Writing Use Me was one of those magic moments. I was sitting at my kitchen counter and it honestly just spilled out. Those are my favorite kind of writes. It sounds strange to say “oh I wasn’t thinking much when I wrote it”, but it was just natural.
Fun fact, I wrote my next single on the same night!
Given the country set-up yet the big-band, anthem-like chorus, who are your inspirations in the music world?
I grew up on Carrie Underwood. I was 5 when she was on American Idol, I was watching her audition and I turned to my parents and said “she’s my favorite singer”, and she has been ever since!
How did you come to connect with Grammy-winning producer Seth Mosley?
My team and I were searching for a music producer, trying to find the perfect fit when Chad Michael Jarvis from King Calaway connected us with Seth. It was such a “meant to be” moment because everything fell right into place after that (thank you Chad!!).
Seth is an incredible producer and also just a great person. I’m so grateful I’m able to work with him.
What was the single most impactful thing about moving to Nashville for you as a songwriter and musician?
I think it’s just the process of growing up and figuring it all out. I first visited Nashville when I was 13 and I told my parents I was gonna move here. And then right after high school, at 19, I moved. It was my first time being alone 700 miles away from my home and family, I didn’t know many people, living in a studio apartment. I just figured it out along the way.
When I started writing more than I ever had, writing with other songwriters, playing songwriter rounds, all while being a 19 year old girl in a big city, I found my style and who I was as an artist.
The one-take music video is brilliant, how easy or difficult was this to shoot – how much fun, how many takes, and what first inspired you to do it?
Thank you so much! Seth Kupersmith directed this video and really took a chance on me. I had this idea of a house party and editing it to look like it was a one take. That’s when Seth said we should do an actual one-take. I was completely on board!! I knew it would be tedious, but think of the end result!
My friends are the best and hung out for hours as we choreographed the whole thing and then shot it. Out of 10 takes, the last take was the winner! It was a long night, but it was so worth it.
In the live setting, are you a solo acoustic performer, or will there be a full band set-up?
It depends on the show! Sometimes it’s a songwriter round and it’s just me and a guitar, and sometimes it’s a full band set-up!
What’s next for you, and where and when can we catch a live show?
I’ll be going on tour as a musical guest with Piper Rockelle this fall! We are going to 14 cities. I went on a couple tour weekends before covid and it’s so much fun. I can’t wait to get back out there! Piper is the sweetest and the fans are the best!
Is there anything else we should know?
I have a new single coming! You can follow me on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, and more to be updated on release dates! And I may I have a couple more fun things up my sleeve… I’m just really excited for the future.
