Following JYM Productions’ recent collaboration with Got’em On Skates, we caught up with company founder Jeshua to find out more about his work as a producer & what JYM is all about. Here’s the conversation in full.

What made you choose to name the business JYM Productions over anything else?

Thank you for this awesome opportunity to be interviewed by you! What inspired the naming of my business was the fact that it was the name that stuck with me since I was an 8th grade young man in middle school. I remember having JYM Productions written on the front of my 8th grade 3-ring binder notebook. I am now 26 years old, so it’s a name that I finally was able to establish as a DBA for my Multi-Media Production company.

What’s your creative thought process like when you’re in the studio with a brand new song in front of you?

My thought process for creating & writing a new song is usually full of excitement and me dancing around the studio looking like a funny guy lol! My most favorite moment when creating new music is that excitement when you feel like you have really good song on your hands.

One rule of thumb that I use in order to know when my songs are fully produced and ready to mix and master, is making sure it passes the “Catchy Stuck in the Head test”. In addition, this test is put into motion by making sure that I write such solid hooks, verses & pre-choruses, that come out so catchy and melodically beautiful, that it would be like candy to the listener’s ears. For example, the song by ADELE Water under the Bridge, comes out with a very catchy verse, then a pre-chorus, then the hook comes and hits you right in the face, gracefully! I love writing and producing songs that leave you astonished like that!

Were you professionally trained in music, production or management before making JYM Productions a legal entity?

Yes, I was professionally trained in Music Production before having JYM Productions established as a fully running, legalized Multi-Media Company. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Production from Full Sail University in 2015. On the other hand, the piano was the first thing I grew doing (started at the age of four).

What steps will you be taking to make sure JYM Productions has an impact in an already saturated music industry?

That’s a really good question. The steps that I plan to take to cause my business to stand out in the music industry is by building me a team of people who are great at what they do. I also believe that the quickest way to rise up and go fourth in this already saturated industry is by connecting yourself with already established industry professionals. That’s what I have been focused on doing more of for the past few months.

What would you say is your favorite thing about being a music producer and songwriter?

I would say that my favorite thing is being able to create and write music that touches people. Being able to create music that gets so stuck in your head that when you hear it on the radio or anywhere, you will automatically know the song because it is so catchy and easy to remember. Also, every song I write, I usually always write with the mindset of this song being a stuck in your head catchy hit song. Even if the song does not become a record breaking hit, I still go into every songwriting process with a hit songwriting mindset. I believe all things are possible with God, Faith & hard work.
