Cool tribal hand rhythms and a programmed kick lay down a unique foundational beat, as Marco Palmieri presents the melodic ethereal tones and escapism of an aptly-titled Explorer.
Something like lo-fi downbeat lounge music or techno at its core, this electronica piece is dreamy and uplifting, hopeful and imaginative, making fine use of a consistent groove but also weaving in plenty of creative twists and colours that effectively bring character and presence to the style.
Rolling through for over six minutes, Explorer is uplifting to let fill the space around you, but there’s also a mildly jazz-like freestyle element to many of these instrumental layers, and something equally less predictable to the structural shifts, tones and choices scattered throughout an eclectic mix.
Always we’re grounded by the rhythm, the warmth and movement – picture a traveller floating through a busy world, calm but curious, and the soundscape provides the perfect accompaniment.
It’s a fresh take from Palmieri, a producer whose creativity resounds at every step, and this new direction is engagingly original, but also essentially grounded in its awareness of what a listener wants and needs from an electronic composition.
