Self-reflective in lyric but celebratory and energising by design, Alone in Sydney feels instantly familiar, comforting in its old-school rock set-up and style, but also quickly redirects things to create lasting interest in Robin Brown the artist. This is the storytelling, the vulnerability, even the subtle synth details in the production. We meander from indie rock to alternative pop just briefly, and all the while the UK vocal style, the Jake Bugg / Arctic Monkeys fusion of influence, lets the music connect and feel authentic.
