Arguably the most interesting and impassioned cover of this recent pop gem to hit the airwaves – ILIA brings a certain grit and personality to Gasoline that feels born to perform it, and the cover, complete with its live visual accompaniment, is intensely captivating.
Vocally unique and recognisable, there’s a raw and distinct tone and character to the sound of ILIA’s voice, and this heavy metal arrangement from the band adds something completely unexpected to the existing anthemic power of Halsey’s original song.
You’ll recognise the opening riff, certain lyrical statements and ideas, but the rest feels like ILIA’s own – a whole new style and sense of purpose, which suits the introspection and poetic scorn of the song perfectly well.
