Knflct - Oh.. - Stereo Stickman

Knflct Oh..

-

Knflct returns, the organic chaos of an elusive artist with a level of creative freedom and intention that stops you in your tracks. This two-track release entitled Oh… is as stylistically raw and carefree as its title implies, but it also employs both a colourful and distorted production, to elevate a simple, descending melody, and self-reflective sentiments that feel scornful but empowering.

Performative by nature, heavily effected but also honest and easy to recognise, the human element is defiant amidst an ocean of distorted and fuzzy synths, keys, bass and old-school rhythms. We progress at the half-way point to something more reverb-soaked and ethereal, a drawn-out vocal pattern, which is then followed by a switch to near-adlib rap.

Always the Knflct voice is recognisable and genuine, and the lyrics increasingly blend sarcasm and piercing observations on modern society and life. It’s a depth intertwined with that carefree appearance, the very essence of Oh.. providing a kind of unignorable pause; like is this really how life is right now, and is this also me?

There’s a lot to unpack, it’s a lyrically dense, no f*cks given track, and the subsequent song different. | Dragon. builds upon that all the more so, with another quirky production and scathing, free-flowing, confrontational and playful lyrics.

You feel like our protagonist is against you, then on your side, then completely opposed to it all, and this back and forth appears to provide an unignorable account of contemporary life. Sometimes it’s complex, unclear, uninhibited and uncertain, but at other times, the sense of character and cutting perspective resounds with a gritty kind of weight and assuredness.
