Unlimited by genre, Late Nate’s approach is that of energy and vibe, in this case presenting delicate layers of synths and keys that quietly pulsate, aptly recreating the idea and feeling of Gentle Flows – a wave-like musical progression that’s calming and colourful.
Alongside this distinct production is of course the leading voice, and Late Nate’s is all the more distinct on that front. From the gently spoken to the falsetto and sung, the performance is impassioned, and rightfully connected to the subject matter at hand. Gentle Flows pours through like a poetry reading, short lines and consistent rhyming pairs of lyrics that list and nudge us deeper into the profound contemplations at hand.
Every once in a while we stop, questions are asked, the voice steps back, and melody and groove let the central beating heart of the track work their magic in a comforting and recognisable manner.
As stated, versatility is a strength, and while Gentle Flows has an unmistakable creative voice at the forefront – the sharp, smart and powerful framing of ideas that inspire and uplift – the track is far from a simple indication of what we can expect from the upcoming Late Nate album.
