“Let me go, set me free, I need to find what’s left of me.”
An artistic explosion of soulful sentiments, fiercely passionate vocals, and unlimited creative influences – MISS AGADA blends memorable songwriting and evocative voices, with a clear sense of purpose and identity as a modern artist.
The six-minute epic that is SPACE introduces the work of an introspective yet hopeful songwriter – someone intent on inspiring others, and celebrating the power of music in connecting people across eras, spaces and circumstances.
Born to Nigerian parents, MISS AGADA’s journey through life has been one of travel and connection. She has spent many years meeting with and influencing communities across East Africa, and in the process, perfecting an artistic aura that’s both eccentric and deeply human.
The single Space was crafted in collaboration with multi-platinum producer Esben ‘Es’ Thornhal, and the soundscape grips the listener increasingly, as we move towards a huge crescendo of a chorus – within which MISS AGADA’s voice reaches phenomenal peaks.
Built around a somewhat minimalist progressive rock backdrop, SPACE begins with tentative musings, and soon finds its groove, as MISS AGADA’s divine and versatile voice guides us, through melodies both extensive and short – the snappier hook moments echoed by a choir of Gospel-like additions.
Then there’s the lyrics, the fragments, the resolves and repeats, the adlibs. It’s a hugely performative recording, with a few sensational notes organically reached. And yet, despite its complexity, the whole thing is grounded by some brilliantly distinct, catchy and satisfying lines and moments. The outro in particular is mighty, and wraps up the experience in a way that lingers in the mind, and leaves you keen to head back and replay the whole song once again.
Unconfined by genre or expectation, MISS AGADA encapsulates the role of the artist, and SPACE is both experimental and well-grounded, as a rewarding modern listen that’s loaded with talent.
