Long-time favourite Snapdibz continues his steady climb as a respectable and creative independent artist. This summer sees the songwriter and producer release an inspiring new EP, designed to engage and motivate listeners, whilst showcasing a fine ear for enchanting production and catchy, snappy hooks.
Crafted in collaboration with Rey Khan, Against All Odds unites five original tracks, beginning with the distinct and colourful drive and sharp rhymes of Energy, and progressing through the instantly more evocative and aptly mellow Downfall.
The contrast between these moments is mighty, and yet the quality of the sound design, the old school RnB hooks and the lyrical focus, hold true to the roots of the project. Snapdibz is a storyteller, setting the mood with music and lyrics alike, and this project highlights the very best of his abilities within the relevance of the modern arena.
Arrangement matters, and next we move into the darker tones and late-night soulful peaks of Driving By. A perfect mid-project track, Driving By has the addictive and immersive set-up of something by The Weeknd, later shifting gears for a performative rap verse that lays down a little more individuality and revelation in terms of the delivery and story.
Rivals is heavily RnB influenced by nature, the chorus kicking things into action with that nostalgic melodic appeal, and later evolving through a dynamic tale and melodic progression that’s infectious, stylish, and energising. Another well-placed variation to the format. The rap is gritty, vulnerable and honest, the flow alternative as ever, and the track is easily a highlight for its simple backdrop, mood, and the memorable crescendo of the hook.
Finally, a huge anthem to close things down – intense keys and playful rhythms set an atmospheric introduction, for the self-empowerment and inspiring possibility of Underdog. In many ways, Snapdibz’ entire career thus far has shone light on the power of the underdog, and this track celebrates that strength at the perfect moment.
A great way to wrap up the conceptually deliberate EP Against All Odds – a worthy addition to an ever-expanding catalogue that now notes hundreds of thousands of streams and counting.
