Themes of disconnection and lostness resound amidst a juxtaposed musical optimism. Kikimora confront the devaluing of love, with the funky soul and jazz tones of No Loving.
From their 2025 self-titled album, No Loving introduces the smooth instrumental flair and vocal lightness of Kikimora in a way that sets a distinct mood. The natural instrumentation is both playful and refreshingly genuine, taking listeners right to the centre of this ultimately disco-like arrangement, and at the same time provoking thoughts reflective of a societal lack of true feeling and connection.
The band are clearly skilful musicians, united quite faultlessly, and with a vocal character and nuance at the forefront that feels somewhat reminiscent of The Cardigans, only here the style is much softer, more colourful, and more conceptually broad in its humanity and sentiment.
The completed album is incredibly eclectic, loaded with stories, varied grooves, impressive performances, and Kikimora prove that, in short, they’re a live band of songwriters worth tuning in for.
