Luvmelater drives with a mellow, breathy leading voice, and offers a memorable introduction, before highlighting the trap and rap side of his influences throughout the more rhythmically intensified COMPASS. After this, RADAR injects a touch of joy, a bounce of a groove and fragmented, shifting vocals that again meander from one style to the next. This moment of colour is essential to the full-landscape of varied Moments that make up the eclectic album, and it leads us well into the quietly thoughtful and ethereal tones of a diary-like and breathy MERCY.
GOD’S ROOM is another highlight from the album, a soaring and dynamic arrangement fills the space, the voice feels soulful and atmospheric, in keeping with the beat, and the lyrics echo through in a confronting fashion. This feels like the mind of the artist, or the listener’s own echo chamber of uncertainty – again provoking imaginative consideration and escapism that lasts.
COLOUR THEORY is mellow, classic lo-fi trap that’s easy to vibe to, but which also shines light on the angst and ideas of Luvmelater in an unedited and relatable manner. ‘People like you are the reason the world is so fucked up…’ rings out and resounds amidst the looping chaos of other references.
Then to finish, we enter a string-touched arena of ambiance, for the striking and unique SAM&DEAN. Just as brief as the opening track, this stream of consciousness directly addresses the listener, but also follows a mysterious storyline of its own, and wraps up the essence of Moments quite perfectly.
