Indira May Imaginary Problems

-

Indie jazz-pop with a soulful fluidity and upbeat bounce – Indira May masters a unique creative space, with her stylish and memorable EP Imaginary Problems.

Performatively noting influence from jazz and soul-pop legends, the music of Imaginary Problems, and in particular, the lyrical depth and openness, all shines light on a whole different set of inspirations from Indira May. The opening song alone is impressively complex and compelling, thoughtful and original in an unexpected fashion, and yet this fully-loaded, almost disco-like production gifts a simple hook and celebration that resounds. don’t feed the sharks is fascinating, “they are not your friends” resounding with relatable intrigue.

We move into something a little darker and more trip-hop-like for childsplay, the voice still unmistakable, and then for STOP, we enter a completely minimal and ambient realm of quiet whispers and provocative ideas.

This balancing of hard-hitting, uplifting musicianship and quirky vocals, with conceptual mystique and realism, is the key to the Indira May sound, and in more ways than one, the Imaginary Problems EP encapsulates the sheer strength and artistic appeal of that quality.

An easy to like, boldly versatile project, with a rather outstanding level of contemplation and poetic originality at its core.
