An acoustic folk-pop collaboration guided by catchy melodies and thoughtful lyrical reflections. CEDER & Dorotea contemplate the depths of human emotion and the possibilities that lie within our existence, with their beautiful, self-titled EP.
Melodically varied from short lines to longer-form and more impassioned peaks, Change Within A Minute starts the project off on a defiant and creative high. The style is humble and familiar, but the song itself is consistently redirecting things towards a new sense of expression and colourful structuring. The chorus in particular takes things down a kind of Ani DiFranco lane just briefly, before returning to the warmth of folk pop, for the resounding and memorable line ‘Are you as scared as I am?’
The EP continues in this way, sometimes much more heartbreakingly poignant, such as for the language fusing, string-led and hopeful Ingen Tid. Then there’s the higher vocal intensity and energy of The Only Exception, still distinct but adding further dynamic to the CEDER & Dorotea sound.
Always the acoustic set-up and these sublime harmonies present a sort of effortless artistry that naturally connects and soothes. The project is a genuine pleasure to let play in full.
