Beautiful vocals and a euphoric production elevate the pop songwriting of UK artist Daisy Peacock. While It Lasted carefully balances the strum of an acoustic guitar, with the synth-loaded ethereal embrace of a dance-ready soundtrack, and all the while promises a heartfelt and memorable ode to the highs and lows of adolescent relationships.
While this kind of reflective and relatable songwriting is currently paving the way for a number of high profile indie pop singer-songwriters, finding that twist of character or something a little different is becoming increasingly difficult. In my view, the production here, the dance energy contrasting the softness and self-reflection of the lyrics and voice, is a huge strength of the Daisy Peacock sound.
The longform verses feel like a genuine, unedited outpouring of real thoughts and feelings, and that honesty will always connect well. It will be interesting to hear where else the creativity and music takes Daisy as further releases hit the scene. Watch this space.
