Kondo wa Kondo Sweet Memories

-

Organic and dreamy indie vibes showcase the instrumental prowess and heartfelt, evocative tendencies of an artist creating purely out of necessity and escapism.

Sweet Memories is an ethereal sounding, guitar-led soundtrack and song, featuring deeply moving vocals both quiet and expressive, and it also utilises an impressive thread of slide guitar – which really helps reinforce the atmospheric depth and longing of the song’s intentions.

Ukrainian artist and multi-instrumentalist Kondo wa Kondo, having relocated to America, found creative inspiration in the depths of nostalgia and missing something like home. In searching for the right word to explain these feelings, this struggle to adapt and accept such new surroundings, appeared to fit well under the Welsh word ‘Hiraeth’. The idea is a deep sense of longing for a place that no longer exists or can no longer be reached.

Sweet Memories is a post-four-minute exploration of that feeling and sentiment, and with the live performance visuals in accompaniment, the song effectively underlines the talent and the wholly immersive, thoughtful nature of Kondo wa Kondo’s approach to music and songwriting in a humble and wonderful fashion.

It’s a beautiful listen, delicate and distant but also profoundly personal. The subject matter is attainable, but likely received in a manner unique to each listener – and that’s precisely where the dreamy escapism of the journey sets in.

We’re in a sort of shoe-gaze meets instrumental production realm, which is refreshingly honest, and it’s a pleasure to lose yourself within the warmth and realism of this track. Hopefully there’s plenty more music on the way.
