The serenity and simultaneous vibrancy of the natural world, carefully guides us into the latest cinematic soundscape from electronic and classical composer David Ratmoko.
Perhaps his most thoughtful opening moments to date, Adagio One features a distinct sense of story and uncertainty, of drama and space, as we walk through this boldly unique fusion of qualities.
From the choir-like church-hall sample of sound, through neo-classical strings, industrial rhythms, and organic fragments of nature, Adagio One is everything we’ve come to love from renowned composer David Ratmoko, and yet in being so, is nothing like you’ll be expecting.
Featuring a humble rhythm of depth and darkness, a downtempo trap beat to underpin these sweeping layers of classical strings and synths, Adagio One effectively creates an audio world of escapism that feels both impressively genuine and decidedly surreal.
The work is somewhat more low-key than some of David’s more recent Preludes, leaning towards the likes of Clubbed To Death in its mystery and melancholy. As ever though, the arrangement details and the resulting mood, the imaginative journey presented to each listener, is entirely its own thing. David Ratmoko has become a master of this creative and compelling unity – presenting the sort of familiar but unrecognisable oxymoron in music that fascinates and deeply moves.
The upcoming debut LP from David Ratmoko is one the instrumental, electronic, and neo-classical music fans alike will want to be tuned in for.
