Adeline V. Lopez - icarus - Stereo Stickman

Adeline V. Lopez icarus

-

Great production captures an intimate acoustic moment for songwriter and artist Adeline V. Lopez. Icarus is familiar and easy-going, but drives with a distinctly gentle, expressive leading voice, and lyrics both poetically vague and profoundly personal in their vulnerability.

Following the simple strum of largely just two chords rising and falling, as well as some humble backing vocals when the energy grows, Icarus builds up unexpectedly after these opening folk-pop moments. The resounding chorus is distinctly catchy, “oh I know, I know, I know” appearing with volume and fluidity; a nostalgic nineties-esque twist that quickly elevates the entire sound and memorable style of the track.

Things continue to follow this original pathway, returning to the quirky and somewhat alternative verse melody for a story that draws you in, yet always maintaining the anticipation of the satisfying and more accessible nature of the hook. It’s a brilliantly effective balance between the unorthodox and the broadly appealing.

Adeline V. Lopez impresses and connects with Icarus. A beautiful example of original and interesting songwriting, with vocals and music that naturally connects.
