Kibs - Find a Way Back - Stereo Stickman

Kibs Find a Way Back

-

Colourful indie pop with a clean vocal and a quirky balancing between RnB and Pop songwriting, even with a twist of something rap-like on occasion – Kibs unites the relatable and unorthodox, with the catchy fluidity and relationship longing of Find A Way Back.

Acoustic on the one hand but also humbly produced to help elevate the underlying emotion of the lyrics, Find A Way Back notes influence from a plethora of genres, and ultimately sets free the Kibs sound as something based purely around songwriting and individuality.

It’s a well-written pop-track, featuring additional melodic design from Melbourne artist Cheyne Greene, and perfectly produced by Canada’s djtj (Travis J. Sewchan) – the latter renowned for his work as audio engineer on Drake’s track Just Hold On We’re Going Home. The results here offer more than enough twists of character to let the single hold attention throughout.

The second verse sees things get a little more lyrically dense, more impassioned and almost gritty – then there’s a brief piano breakdown as we delve back into the loving sentiments of the song. It’s a great set-up and structure, an organic groove elevated by the changing intensity and meandering melody of the lead from Kibs. Even the call-and-response echoes of support add a level of warmth and design that’s likable.

Then during the final third, we suddenly enter this electro-pop realm of retro synths and warped fragments of voice – a unique middle 8 that’s unexpected but stylistically in keeping with the creative freedom of the whole song. Consider the original nature of the melody, simple but fresh in its short to long-form progression. And even with all of this, we constantly return to the satisfying resolve of the hook – a pop moment that lingers after listening, to effectively reground things for that mainstream audience appeal.
