Odd Cadet - I Should Go - Stereo Stickman

Odd Cadet I Should Go

-

Big vibes from a retro electronic Odd Cadet – I Should Go is the nostalgic new anthem, and is all at once catchy, evocative, and powerfully immersive.

Great songwriting lights up the space unexpectedly, amidst what is already a likeable presentation of eighties rhythms and synths united throughout a high-octane progression both dance-ready and melancholic in its approach to euphoria.

Alongside this, however, Odd Cadet weaves in an impassioned vocal performance, and lyrics that fearlessly reflect on personal turmoil and vulnerability. It’s a song of heartbreak, but it peaks with a bold and beautiful chorus of celebration; to contrast that uncertainty and longing.

Incredibly catchy and somehow both electro and pop-punk inspired as it gathers quirky momentum, I Should Go is an easy track to lose yourself within for a while. Weave in the yesteryear TV set and the heavy-set pixels of the artist logo, and the whole thing effectively recaptures the attention of the sci-fi eighties music fans – reinventing things slightly with its emotional purity and devotedly passionate chorus.

Also included with this release is an interestingly titled Retro Remix or Gated Reverb 80’s Remix Here we get a kind of disco floor-filler vibe, the song already unmistakable in its melodic and lyrical outcry, but the voice mixed quietly to make way for the sheer energy and soaring instrumental layers of the reverb-drenched mix.

In my view, this remix lets those qualities stand all the more tall – there’s a humility to the vocal sound now, but it’s no less desperate, relatable, and emotional in its meandering through this earworm of an anthem. The nostalgia soaks in brilliantly for the reverb-soaked mix, and all the while the central theme and tune of I Should Go resounds and repeats long after the music has ended.
