Arayansh Thapar Emotions

-

Inspired by rock and blues from across the ages, but leading with a notably ambient production, Arayansh Thapar effectively carves out a lane of his own, with the beautifully consuming EP Emotions.

Intro is a full track in itself, a neo-classical trip hop exploration of rhythm and space, with barely a few fragments of soulful guitar-work to present hints of rising anticipation and indeed of what’s to follow throughout the project. It’s a huge opening moment, building with wonder and passion, and it’s followed well by the equally nostalgic groove of our title track Emotions.

Now we’re into the meat of the rock and blues influence, a mellow but distorted guitar line and smooth vocals taking us somewhere contemplative and somehow both delicate and intense. Once again, Arayansh Thapar is creating his own style with this. Though John Mayer is a source of inspiration, this EP to me feels authentically true to a brand new artist, and that balancing of the softness and grit is intoxicating.

Contrast is key throughout these four tracks, and this is made clear by the switch to the acoustic purity and calm of Sunset. Arayansh showcases the very best of his abilities as both guitarist and singer-songwriter, through the diversity and constant poetic depth of all four songs.

We finish with a colourful and almost psychedelic world-rock fusion of traits. Gentle and humble as ever but with a certain weight and stomp to the progression. Versatility is a strength, but it’s impressively grounded by the unmistakable lyricism and voice of Arayansh Thapar.

Emotions is an interesting, vulnerable and boldly human journey – as well as an enjoyable EP to delve into.
