Italian rock trio Posh return this season with a swirling psychedelic arrangement and anthem that’s both evocative and energising.
Having first crossed our path back in 2021, with their single Plan B, the band now turn towards a harmonised warmth and colourful musicality, for the provocative and immersive Close Your Eyes.
Featuring multiple layers of keys, synths, guitars, bass, drums and vocals, the fullness of Close Your Eyes tips its hat towards the likes of Muse, while the leading tone offers more of an eighties twist of influence. Meanwhile these riffs, this sense of character and emotion, all leans in favour of a fresh identity and sound; a winning combination.
The song’s instrumental middle-8 is particularly effective, a looping downpour of melodic fragments and short riffs, as we build towards a quietly contemplative finish. The contrast between this section and the bigger anthemic moments of unity from earlier is a huge part of what gives Close Your Eyes such an artistic and impactful aura. It’s a simple electronic rock hit on the one hand, but a unique underground gem for its revelations and threads of character on the other.
Becoming increasingly renowned for their impassioned intertwining of classic rock and contemporary design, Posh branch out conceptually for the new release, tackling the universal desire and longing of humans for contact and interaction. Both the lyrics and heartfelt nature of the performance reach out with purity and style, and as such, Close Your Eyes proves all the more rewarding with each revisit.
