Classic rock and roll sets the groove from the outset as Electric Standard capture their live sound beautifully, for Half of Half.
Feeling like a slept-on classic from a simpler era, Half of Half leans towards the songwriting and style of country rock crossovers like The Eagles – blending catchy melodies and relatable vocals with poetic storytelling, harmonic over-layers, and the raw rhythm and embrace of a full-band progression.
As the song starts up, the arrangement is fairly minimalist and spacious – mildly distorted electric guitar, drums, bass and voice, keeping our focus on the melody and the story-line; our central protagonist. Fairly quickly the sound feels familiar, locks you into its vibe, and gets you listening intently as the music pours through.
The guitar solo of the middle-8 is really nicely crafted, a moment of lyrical pause to simply get lost in the sound and reflect on the tale, relate it to oneself perhaps.
Electric Standard showcase themselves well here, humility and talent meet with a clear sense of purpose and love for the process. Nothing flashy, no filler, just great music performed with precision and heart. And on top of this, the vocal melody and indeed that underlying guitar riff linger after listening – effective calling cards of a worthy songwriter.

Thanks for putting such a careful ear to our song! It’s rewarding and refreshing to feel like someone “gets it” — understands both the purpose and the process — especially when that someone is a talented writer and musician.
Thanks for your consistent and astute support of so many local artists.
