Instantly poetic and personal all at once, the song features unmistakable vocals at the forefront, and a familiar descending melody that later meanders to help keep things interesting throughout.
Musically we’re in a pop-rock organic realm, acoustic and distorted flavours subtly intertwine, blending elements of Elbow with the likes of The Beach Boys and even Green Day on occasion. Ultimately, The Middlebees create their own sound, depicting influences aplenty but with a central concept and tone that’s undoubtedly theirs.
From a songwriting and presentation angle, this entire track allows for a welcomed hit of enchanting escapism – so much so that it may take the analyst or writer more than a few listens to get down to work.
It’s an enjoyable journey, hypnotic and provocative, calming yet near-euphoric as the energy and intentions build. Great songwriting and faultless musicianship is elevated by the equally adept production, and all in all the song prompts lasting interest in The Middlebees as a contemporary rock band.
