Following a string of recent releases, we caught an interview with alternative producer and artist Koosy, to find out more about the music and his journey so far as a creative. Here’s how it went.

Hi Koosy – Happy New Year! Great to chat with you, congrats on the new releases. For those who don’t know, how would you describe your approach to making music?
I would describe it as more of a creative approach if anything, I like to fill each song up as much as I can before finalizing it.
Your production is immensely creative and often unpredictable – what inspired you to start making music in this way, and where do you begin with a new track?
Tyler, the Creator really inspired me a whole bunch, so does Stevie Wonder, The Beach Boys, and the Beatles.
You’ve been producing for a year now – what’s the main thing you’ve learned about the process along the way?
Be patient, there’s not really anything you can do if you’re not patient with yourself.
In what ways does your mental health play into your creative process, and does making music prove therapeutic for you?
It plays a huge role in my song making process, sometimes I will hear a song in my head (a hallucination) and grab my keyboard or phone and sing it or play exactly what I heard. This is what happened with the drum beat in soundtrack, my first song.
How did the song Malinda come to be, and where do you imagine is the best setting for listeners to experience it?
I was originally going to put it in a concept album I’m making, but I thought I had to show people it, so I made it a single. I also changed the lyrics and made it more about a hallucination I had.
What can you tell us about the artistic differences between Pick Up Girl and Orchestra – why such juxtaposed styles, and what qualities do you try to maintain as a thread for your name?
I wanted to show that I could be both professional and reckless at the same time. Orchestra is more of a professional and peaceful song, as apposed to pick up girl where it is more of a reckless, f*ck everything type of vibe.
You’re also in a band – how does writing and performing as a solo artist compare to collaborative work?
It allows me to completely let out all of me creativity without judgement or someone being unhappy, I love my band but If I think something is good and they don’t then it just won’t happen, so that’s why I made a solo thing.
Is live performance a big part of your plans?
Yes, I’m planning to go on tour maybe 2022 or 2023 summer.
What else do you have planned throughout 2022?
I plan to make at least 1 album and 2 singles throughout the year.
Is there anything else we should know?
Not really, I mean I’m just a regular guy.
