Kicking into gear with the title-track, we get a clear level of summertime energy and brightness to back up a faultlessly meandering vocal from Jaydii. Good vibes and confidence unite with addictive rhythms for a quick injection of possibility and drive.
Afterwards, Pocket Rocket furthers the infectious energy of the opener, turning down a more simple pathway but making fine use of stylish layers of rhythm and bass as the performances from both Juice9dime and Jaydii again raise the roof.
New Drink (Feat. Whitty) is an absolute highlight, compiling the qualities above in a massively catchy progression that begs for you to listen more than once to take on every bar. Weave in a light and breezy soundscape for a fresh twist of creativity yet again, and this one seals the deal for one of the most uplifting hip hop albums of the year.
Versatility shines beautifully on this project, not least of all in the production from Blvff for its eclecticism from instrument to effect and genre to genre to genre. Always the vibe keeps the peace though, and Jaydii alongside this is gifted the chance to really draw focus to his talent as a writer, rapper and artist. The dynamic between producer and performer proves faultless and illuminates the very best of both.
Offering a couple of classic tones and contemporary plains alike – the modern emo-rap stylings of Ferris Wheel, the trap tendencies of a lyrically clever Route 4, the absolute soul and embrace of Mail Man (Feat. Goddess) – Vibrant Summer keeps things on point yet interesting throughout. Musically and performance-wise, an easy must this side of the summer.
