Featuring a string-led ambiance and fragments of cinematic detail to really set the scene, artist and songwriter NT tells a story of personal turmoil in an open and wholly immersive way.
Building up slowly from hints of a concept and a calming soundscape, through to a rhythmic and boldly multi-layered beat, Numb takes listeners through various flows and subtle melodies, progressing from darkness to optimism at about the half-way point – always outpouring in a way that feels like a freestyle or a diary entry.
Nothing is held back, and the hook resolves to this sentiment of ‘tonight’ – no longer caring, numbing the pain, utilising intoxication for escapism. The music and the concept walk hand in hand, and there’s a strong level of relatability to it all – both in terms of the uncertainty of our time and the contemporary emo-rap edge of the music.
NT’s creative production and the various ways in which the voice appears though, all injects a worthy hit of individuality. The tone is recognisable, raw and emotive, and will hopefully prove a memorable trait throughout future releases.
