Kevin Lee and his band of well-practiced, passionate musicians kick into gear with a brilliantly energetic hit of story-telling and classic rock and roll.
Leading with layers of distorted fuzz, a simple power-chord progression and a clear-cut yet raspy, softly soulful vocal line, the song makes fair use of short rhymes and minimalist melodies to quickly capture affection. You feel like you know this groove, but the story is undoubtedly new.
That simple approach can also be found in the lyrics, the song again utilizes the power of familiarity yet arranges it in a cleverly new way. The result is a track with enough nostalgia to comfort, yet more than enough freshness to excite and entertain.
As well as presenting effective songwriting, and an overall rock sound that was greatly missed throughout much of the last decade, Wind It Up showcases an emotional and thoughtful undertone – indicative of a band with intention, meaning, and a natural passion for the process.
