Whimsy and The Bee - History - Stereo Stickman

Whimsy and The Bee History

-

Stories and songs blend organic folk rock arrangements with heartfelt melodies and moments, which carefully weave together the genuine journey of songwriter Chris Connors. Whimsy and The Bee deliver a hopeful yet evocative collection of new songs, for their aptly-titled album History.

As an early highlight, Keep Your Head is a brilliant song, contrast masterfully employed from strings and acoustic refrains to the addictive bounce of the full groove, with great riffs, keys and melodies all united amidst a concept that rings out and lingers in the mind.

This feels remisncent of Counting Crows to me, not in sound but in structure and story, in the emotion and the instrumental versatility and charm; the lightness and the sudden passion.

Elsewhere History refuses to adhere to a single creative method, and for Buddha in a Bonnet, another clear highlight, we enter something more emo-esque and akin to the likes of Bright Eyes or Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly. The strings and guitars soften though, the quicker outpourings re-grounded by the timid smoothness of the chorus, and in short, the eclectic loveliness of this album is a joy to let play.
